Moving your Blog from Blogger to WordPress
I helped walk a Mom Blogger through moving her blog from a blogger platform and host to her new host with a WordPress platform today and thought I would share the steps with anyone else looking to move their Word Press blog over from Blogger.
1) Ensure all your blog post are backup ed at at your current blog.
3) Go to your new hosting control panel and into fantastico. INSTALL Wordpress to the main directory.
* Fantastico rarely contains the latest version of Word Press.
4) Download the following plugin, unzip it and upload it into the wordpress plugin folder ( you will need dreamweaver or an FTP program for this)
http://techie-buzz.com/wordpress-plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade-plugin.html
Here is the wordpress page about installing and using Word Press plugins: http://codex.wordpress.org/Managing_Plugin
5) Activate the Word Press Automatic plugin
6) Use the plugin to ensure you have upgraded your Wordpress to the most current version
7)Once you have the most current version of wordpress upload and install these plugins:
All in one SEO plug in for WordPress Creates SEO friendly posts http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/
Mouser directs mobile phone users to a friendly page version http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mowser-wordpress-mobile/
Contact form THE BEST BEST contact form plug in !! http://www.deliciousdays.com/cforms-plugin
Twitter widget Pro http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/twitter-widget-pro/
Activate the plugins.
STEP 9 :
Don’t worry about the theme yet - instead Import your content from blogger - you want your content up on your site right away
You can find the instructions here:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_Content
STEP 10:
The next step is to install the themes you like - You can install more then one theme. Then select the one you want to use.
You can also change from one to another easily - but it won’t carry over any extra items you insert into the code using the theme editor …
so if you select theme 1 and install side bar buttons - them switch to theme 2 - you will need to paste the code into the side bar of theme 2.
Themes are installed just like plugins download and unzip - then upload the theme folder INTO the theme folder on your hosting server. (using Dreamweaver or FTP)
Here is the WordPress page for Wordpress themes:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes#Get_New_Themes
It lists places to get them and how to install them
No you can use the theme editor to customize your Word Press theme (easiest way is to locate the IMAGE files and simply create new images with the EXACT same dimensions and save them with the same name) then adjust colours in the style sheet)
