As promised, I am sharing my ad campaign results from the adgitize blog advertising test campaign I ran.
I ran a 125 button with a CLEAR call to action and an offer for bloggers.

I received 59781 ad impressions and 535 clicks. The CTR was bit low .0.0089 but over a cost per click of less then 2 cents per click which is great. I did receive some sign ups ( no payment required) though I didn’t track the number of signups.

So if you are looking to increase traffic to your blog with some paid advertising on a budget, I would say adgitize blog ads is a good option. I am not sure how affiliate offers would convert as they audience is rather broad.

Also, as the site becomes more popular you may find your impressions will be less.

As a blogger (yes, I have a ‘mom blog’) I receive daily ‘PR pitches’ from pr companies whose clients have paid them to promote their service to the Mom Blogger community. I decided to blog this afternoon to express a growing concern I have with PR companies offering their services online to promote a product or service online.

I can not help but wonder how some of these smaller PR firms stay in business. Their email write ups are fine, but they are agreeing to take money from a client whose Internet presence is well – horrid. Step 6 before steps 1-5 are done.

PR is about a clients reputation and sending out news releases to promote a site that looks as though it was created in 1999, does not brand the client in a positive way.

I feel the purpose of hiring New Media PR company is to help a client build their reputation online. A important part of that would be providing the feedback for necessary changes to their online presence before you launch any PR strategies.

Today I received a pitch for a children’s holiday book. The pitch was written and sent by a PR company for authors.

You have to remember that this pitch is being sent to a list of Internet Savvy mom bloggers who understand web 2.0 (they are bloggers!) From the email they are directed to a website that looks like it may have been put together by my 7 year old son in his elementary school computer center (which is NOT an exaggeration.)

I then went to the PR companies site and again saw a site that would have been a candidate for my webinar ‘Is your website a web 1.0 dinosaur’.

So here are some tips for PR people who may not be all that Internet saavy.
Before you start promoting a client online;

1) ensure they have an up to date website. WordPress is free and a well designed SEO business site can be completed for about $500.

2) Ensure your clients are up to date on social media concepts and using social media. $300 US will get them up and launched across over 200 social media sites.

3) Launch your PR strategies to point back to landing page on your clients site -(or your website) specific to the offer you are promoting. Include an online form for more details, a place to download creative, press releases, media tools (including HIGH res images) and your full contact details as the PR rep.

If you need help finding affordable Social media consultants or WordPress Design, please ask me and I will provide you with some names.

But for the love of all things on this planet. PLEASE update your websites and STOP all promotion online until it is done.

There are so many free PR opportunities online.

Today I stumbled across a ‘tweet’ announcing a unique Twitter Chat that takes place on Tuesday’s from from 8-9 p.m (ET) for small businesses. The chat normally features one ‘Guest’ that you can ask questions. But this week they are hosting a Networking Opportunity where you can introduce y our small business.

The Twitter Hash Tag is: #smbiz

Here’s the description from their Blog:

This week you can join our small business chat on Twitter and promote your small business, product or services. Each person will get 3 to 5 minutes to tell us a little bit about their business and the benefits of their product or service. Chat participants can ask questions about the business to learn more. Since we’re doing this virtually, the moderator (@smbiz) will introduce each person and announce when their time is up.

Check out the Understanding Marketing Blog to learn how to register for this free online business networking opportunity.

Search engine optimization or seo services provided by the different companies off you quick and unique resources to improve your website or product.

It’s day two of the Ultimate Blog Party 2009, and this evening I spent some time visiting the ‘Dad bloggers’ participating in the blog party. I hear about mom bloggers and how PR professionals are always trying to reach them. I wonder how PR and Marketing execs could network with Dad bloggers.

I will have to look into the Dad blogger phenomenon a bit more …

Here are the Dad Bloggers participating in this years Ultimate Blog party who I visited this evening:

I have been using FeedBlitz here at Her-Media to allow my readers to receive new posts by email each week and I am really happy with the service. However, I would like an option that isn’t a remote blog subscription service.

I am working on my children’s school parent advisory website (of course its going to be Word Press) and I found this great little plug in;

Post Notification by Moritz Strübe (if you are using WordPress’ plug in uploader search tags for ‘notification’).

As with any emailer, be sure to check with your hosting provider to be sure you are familiar with any limits the place on email sends before using the plug in. Or use the WordPress Mail SMPT plugin. Our pac website shouldn’t have too many subscribers since the school has less then 300 students so with some adjustments in my settings it appears to be working ok.

If your template supports captcha, you can keep the bots away as well.

Users can then select notifications based on the categories that interest them.

You can also easily customize the email and template pages.

The one feature I hope to see in the future is the ability to create a daily or weekly digest as individual emails will likely become over whelming for subscribers. Keep this in mind. If you are a really active blogger you may want to hold off until they offer a digest option.

I will keep testing this plugin for a few weeks on this one blog and report any bugs I encounter.

If you need help managing this or any other Word Press plugin consider hiring me …

There’s a backlash of negative Social media PR heading your way on twitter and mom blogs … directed at who ? Take a look;

In the three minutes it took me imbed the above video 10 more comments on twitter have appeared using the tag ‘ #motrinmoms ‘.

Two things about the Motrin Mom situation are intriguing me at the moment

1) The amazing power of Twitter to reach a large corporation in a VERY short period of time.

It seems Johnson & Johnson is pulling the Motrin ad off their website and out of print. I applaud the twitter moms for understanding the value of social media to get their concern heard by a large Corporation.

2) I am confused how a company known for understanding mothers let the ball drop on this one.

A Johnson & Johnson spokeswoman responded to Mather Harper with comments like; “ I am, myself, a mom of 3 daughters.” and “we had intended to demonstrate genuine sympathy and appreciation for all that parents do for their babies”.

I was not a baby wearing mom (I stopped when my son was about 5 months). However even I know that a properly fitted and worn sling should not cause back ache. I also recognize the value of both sling wearing and breastfeeding.

Some Moms may have found this video amusing. However, the majority of mothers I know (baby wearing or not) felt this ad could damage the hard work done to educate mothers on the benefits of baby wearing.

This ad may have been successful if they simply removed the crazy mom mention ( I know as a mom I have my crazy moments – they aren’t my shining ones and really please don’t highlight them;) and replaced it with a website offering tips on how to properly wear your sling to prevent back pain and how Motrin can help you in the mean time. By promoting the use of slings they could brand their product with the positive instead of branding their product with the negative impacts of a improperly worn sling inadvertably sending out a message that sling wearing causes pain.

I was reading Kaira Sturdivant Roud’s blog Real you Incorporated this morning and enjoyed her take on why you should be marketing to women in Real Estate;

According to Kaira’s blog;

• Women make or influence 91% of all home buying decisions.
• Women guide 94% of all home-furnishing purchases.
• Two-thirds of real estate agents are women.
• 78% of engaged women say that while they already have furniture, they’ll replace most or all of it when they marry.

I found the later interesting as I have often thought about what I will do if I ever co inhabit with a partner in the future and I don’t think I will bring my ‘past’ into the new home when it comes to general furnishings.

Take a look at her Video and learn about the spending habits of women after they make a home purchase.
